clean sheets

This painting is based on a dream I had about a year before we got Ludo, not anything he has actually done. Though I suspect trying to toilet train him would have the same result. I don't usually pay any attention to my dreams but this one was WEIRD.

more lime green

Travelling on bikes really limits the amount of souvenirs you can buy. If you don't have room for a pillow or change of shoes, you definitely don't have room for fragile ornaments. When we were in Europe I had to limit my souvenir shopping to vinyl toys (posted home on purchase) and badges. When we got home I couldn't decide what to do with them for ages until I found this deep photo frame. I made a soft backing out of old cut up t-shirts, pinned the badges on and ta-da! My favourites are the enamel beretwearing, cigar smoking man from a flea market in rural France and the waving turd from Antwerp.T he painting below is from last year when I made lots of double headed creatures - this one is called Engaged Couple.

t-shirt

My mother suffers from a chronic inability to throw anything away. Her house always looks neat but opening cupboards is risky due to the danger of mountains of random stuff falling on your head. The best example of her hoarding I can think of came up at a bbq a few years ago. She was handing out paper napkins with a very retro seventies design on them. I asked her where she had got them from and was told they were leftovers from her engagement party. My parents have been married for 32 years.

I do understand where she is coming from and also find it hard to let go of things. My own style is to slowly build up piles of stuff then go through massive clean outs every few months. I move a lot which is a pretty good deterent to hoarding and try to follow the rule of something new comes in, something old goes out. When it's something I don't need but aren't prepared to give up quite yet, I try to find another use for it; hence the t-shirt above which has various shinypretty things attached.

miaow

How cute is this cat? And I don't even like cats. I got it from Savers for the bargain price of $1.99. A few modifications later (removing the fugly dish it sat on, copious amounts of silver polish) and I was in love. The radio on the bag hanger is one I've had since I was six and being battery powered, came in handy during the blackout last week. If something ever happens to me, Kle gets the painting.

best christmas present EVER

Christmas 2007 and I woke up early in the morning all excited to get my present from my boyfriend (I am a present junkie). Sure, he'd been saying he wasn't going to get me one as I'd missed a few of his birthdays but I was really, really hoping he didn't mean it. He did. Cue MUCH sulking and lip quivering.

This year he made up for it though and gave me this beautiful yet creepy (my favourite category) print by Mark Ryden. Good boyfriend! It's really heavy so I haven't hung it up yet, it's just resting on the drawers in my bedroom. I couldn't take a good photo of it up close but you can see it better at http://www.markryden.com
It's called "Sophia's Mercurial Waters" and is from the Bunnies and Bees Series. The baby elephant drinking breast milk is my favourite bit.
